The history of our foundation

The Multicultural Event is an event designed to promote diversity, inclusion and equity in

our community.

The event has a proven track record of bringing communities together through arts, entertainment, food, education and spreading a positive message!

2017

We started planning the very first Multicultural event.

2018

The inaugural Multicultural Event was held in Shelburne in partnership with the Shelburne Library and with the support of MPP Sylvia Jones and Shelburne Council. The event showcased arts and crafts from local schools, along with poetry and cultural food from community members.

2019

The event doubled in size showcasing not only Shelburne but including all of Dufferin County. Local schools and youth groups such as Black Chapter, Gender Sexuality Alliance, and Social Equity were involved in the success of the event.
We were fortunate to have amazing sponsors from around Dufferin County and the continued support of MPP Sylvia Jones, Shelburne Council and Orangeville Council.

2020

The first virtual event took place. It showcased performances from the Irish/Scottish and Punjab community. Food pictures, videos and recipes from the Caribbean, Bangladesh, Scottish, Portuguese and African communities were shared. Various art pieces were showcased. We were fortunate to have amazing sponsors from around Dufferin County with the support of MP Kyle Seeback and continued support of MPP Sylvia Jones, Shelburne Council and Orangeville Council.

The Unity in Diversity flag representing Multicultural Day was created by the multicultural committee. The flag was raised throughout Dufferin County and Caledon.

We honored the achievements of our great leaders who work behind the scenes with the partnership of MP Kyle Seeback, MPP Sylvia Jones, Deputy Mayor Steve Anderson, Caledon Councilor Johanna Downey, Museum of Dufferin and our committee.
